John Allan Namu was appointed to the advisory board on February 7, 2023, alongside two other journalists.
The board comprises high-profile international figures from news organizations, technology companies, media policy-making, and academia tasked with providing insights and suggestions for Reuters Institute.
“I am honored to be joining the Reuters Institute’s Advisory Board. I am very excited about the opportunity to learn and contribute to thought leadership in journalism,” he said in a Twitter post.
After leaving mainstream media in 2015, he co-founded African Uncensored, a company specializing in investigative and in-depth reporting.
As an eminent investigative journalist, Namu has successfully unravelled several mysteries and suspicious activities in Kenyan society. One of his most notable published videos exposed, titled The Pandora Papers: Kenyatta’s secret companies, detailed the complex web of Kenyatta’s family wealth cached overseas.
His other new colleagues are Luz Mely Reyes, a highly accomplished Venezuelan multimedia journalist and co-founder of Etecto Cocuyo, a digital media organization dedicated to independent journalism, and Zaffar Abbas, a prominent editor at Dawn Pakistan’s leading English language newspaper.
Throughout his journalism career, Allan has scoped several prestigious awards, including the coveted CNN African Journalist of the year award.
