Kenya’s Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has withdrawn terror charges against Standard Media group journalist Laban-cliff Onserio.
Following the parties’ deferred plea agreement, the DPP dropped the terror accusations against the journalist.
In a deferred prosecution agreement, the prosecution agrees to offer amnesty if the defendant agrees to specified conditions.
Ishmael Nyaribo, an attorney for Mr. Onserio, reported on Monday that after the DPP dropped the allegations, Kahawa Court Judge Boaz Ombewa stamped the file as closed.
He further stated that Mr. Onserio had not yet entered a plea to the allegations.
Mr. Onserio is the Chief of Staff at Standard Media Group.
The journalist, detained on December 20 in a Holy Family Basilica parking space, vigorously rejects all accusations of wrongdoing.
He was detained, according to the police, when cops who had been called by the church’s security to deal with an altercation involving the journalist discovered a stun grenade in his car.
