Open Democracy, a global media platform that aims to challenge power and inspire change, is seeking an Africa Editor to join its team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for human rights, social justice, and democracy, and a deep understanding of the political, social, and cultural issues affecting the African continent.

The Africa Editor will be responsible for developing and managing the editorial strategy for Open Democracy’s Africa section, commissioning and editing high-quality articles, opinion pieces, and multimedia content from a diverse range of contributors across the continent. The role also involves building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including civil society organizations, academics, journalists, and policymakers.

Additionally , the ideal candidate should have proven experience in editing and publishing high-quality content related to Africa, with a strong track record of commissioning and working with diverse contributors. They should possess a deep understanding of the political, social, and cultural issues affecting the African continent and an ability to identify emerging trends and stories. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills are also required, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders across different countries and cultures.
