The leadership council for Africa REACH (Reaching the End of AIDS in Children and Youth by 2025) has chosen journalist Leon Lidigu from the Nation Media Group to join the council.
Africa REACH is a new continental project created in response to the pressing need to address the HIV/Aids issue among children and young people.
Mr. Lidigu’s invitation to join the prestigious post was penned by the organization’s chairperson and First Lady of Namibia, Monica Geingos. He will now be part of the leadership council, comprising 12-15 influential Africans.
Their mandate will include developing a strategy and work plan to drive momentum around African commitments to end HIV/Aids in children and youth.
The invitation reads in part: “Further to an invitation to join the Leadership Council, we would be honored to have you join us at the official launching of the Africa REACH Initiative”.
The launch is scheduled in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on the margins of the African Union Heads of State Summit on 18-19 February 2023.
Lidigu recently emerged third globally in the WHO/ICFJ Violence Against Children Reporting Contest 2022.
The African Union Special Envoy on Youth, Ms. Chido Cleo Mpemba of Zimbabwe, Hon. Patience Masua of Namibia, the youngest member of parliament serving in the National Assembly of the Republic of Namibia, and Hon. Judith Salvio Kapinga of Tanzania, an advocate for the High Court of Tanzania, are also council members.
